Now Auditioning for “ZUG”
“Zug,” a short film presented by Paper Room Productions in association with The University of Michigan, is currently casting. “Zug” is a collaboration between University of Michigan alumni and local Detroit talent. Our goal is to create a product worthy of major film festivals, and to contribute to a growing body of creative work dedicated to showcasing a positive image of Detroit. Shooting will take place in Ann Arbor, MI.
Set in Detroit, a city filled with myths and urban legends, Zug is the story of Donovan and Lee — two boys from the outskirts of Detroit forced to straddle the boundary between city and suburbs, “outsider” and “insider” — who, upon a dare from their classmates, resolve to sneak inside the legendary Zug Island.
- Donovan: (protagonist) Male, African American, age 15-21 (able to play junior/senior in high school). Having grown up on the outskirts of Detroit, Donovan has straddled the boundary between outsider/insider his entire life. When he is dared to sneak inside the source of several urban legends – Zug Island – Donovan must confront his own uncertainties and suspicions of the city in order to come to grips with what it means to call Detroit “home.”
- Lee: (supporting) Male, age 15-22 (able to play junior/senior in high school). Donovan’s best friend, Lee joins Donovan for his journey to Zug Island.
- Claire: (supporting) Female, Caucasian, age 15-22 (able to play junior/senior in high school). Donovan’s suburban classmate – and crush – Claire’s fascination with urban-exploration compels Donovan to visit Zug as a way to “win the girl.”
