“My Apocalypse” Student Film Auditions GVSU (Grand Rapids, MI)

“My Apocalypse” A Grand Valley State University Film and Video Production

Senior Thesis Written and (to be) Directed by Ben Kleyn, who received an award for “Most Outstanding Undergraduate Student” in GVSU’s Film and Video program last year.

SHOOTING DATES: Friday, Oct. 15 through Sunday, Oct. 17

Synopsis:

“My Apocalypse” (working title) centers on the imagination of William B. Sera, a socially awkward young man who dreams of writing a bestseller. Will lives a lonely life, and in the midst of his endless shortcomings, he imagines himself and his life to be more like something out of a novel than reality–until he meets someone in the real world who might just be better than fiction. But is he ready to wake from a life of dreams?

Available Roles:

  • WILLIAM B. SERA (Male, 20s) Lonely and socially awkward in reality, confident and smooth in fantasy. Dreams of being a great writer and takes notes while people-watching at his favorite coffee shop. Surrounds himself with things of fiction and the unreal. Has an imaginary friend, Nadia, whom he eventually destroys because of her increased criticism of his writing and state of mind. Develops the beginnings of a relationship with Adam Nix only to be left heartbroken and nihilistic. His sanity is ultimately debatable.
  • ADAM NIX (Male, 20s to early 30s) An attractive young man who catches the attention of Will and Nadia in a coffee shop while reading a favorite novel. Appreciates the surreal and has a taste for the uncommon, but ultimately prefers realism over fantasy. Self-confident and charming. In Will’s initial fantasy, Adam speaks with an accent. Begins a relationship with Will but soon drifts away and ultimately ends the relationship.
  • NADIA (Female, 20s to 30s) Will’s eccentric, imaginary friend who has a taste for flashy outfits. Nadia is not afraid to speak her mind about reality. She becomes concerned about Will’s well-being and state of mind, warning him to be careful in his relationship with Adam and to not dive too deeply into fantasy. Offers harsh criticism of Will’s writing. She is gradually negated as Will begins to resent her until she is dramatically erased from his imagination.
