The Encore Musical Theatre Company will hold auditions for their upcoming production of Annie, directed by Barbara F. Cullen, on Sunday September 20, from 10 am to 1 pm. Auditions will be by appointment only in 5 minute time slots for girls interested in the roles of Annie or any of the orphans. Auditions will take place at The Encore Musical Theatre Company, 3126 Broad St. Dexter MI, 48130.
Appointments may be made by calling the box office at (734)268-6200 from 4 to 6 pm Monday through Friday. Please DO NOT LEAVE A MESSAGE. To schedule an appointment time, you must speak to a live person. Messages will not be returned.
Auditioners should prepare to sing 16 bars from a song of their choosing (songs from the show are fine). Please bring a headshot and resume if possible, as well as a list of conflicts from October 20 to December 20.
Annie rehearsals will begin October 20 for Annie and the Orphans only. Rehearsals take place Monday through Friday from 6 to 10 pm (most nights the younger cast members will be done before 10), and Saturdays from noon to 6 pm. On tech day (Saturday November 21) rehearsal will run from noon to midnight with a two hour dinner break.
Annie opens November 27 and runs through December 20. Shows take place Thursdays at 7, Fridays at 8, Saturdays at 3 and 8, and Sundays at 3. There will be one weekday matinee on Thursday December 3 at 3 pm and one Sunday evening performance on November 30 at 7pm.
PLEASE NOTE: All girls will be double cast except for Annie.
1933, Manhattan’s lower east side, the depression. Based on the comic strip “Little Orphan Annie” by Harold Gray, this musical follows a 10-year-old orphan girl (and her dog, Sandy) as she attempts to find her parents in order to escape the horrible Miss Hannigan, the matron of the orphanage. Eventually, however, it is discovered that her parents have been dead for some time, but she is comforted and adopted by millianaire Oliver Warbucks.
Annie – Spunky, friendly, big-voiced, street-wise urchin–one of the orphans, to play 11 years old, Mezzo-Soprano: A – high F
Molly – The littlest orphan, to play 6 years old, must sing and dance, will be double cast.
Kate – The next to littlest orphan, to play 7 years old, must sing and dance, will be double cast.
Tessie – The cry baby orphan, 10 years old, must sing and dance, will be double cast.
Pepper – The toughest orphan, to play 12 years old, must sing and dance, will be double cast.
July – The quietest orphan, to play 13 years old, must sing and dance, will be double cast.
Duffy – The biggest orphan to play 13 years old, must sing and dance, will be double cast.
About the Encore
The Encore is a semi-professional theatre employing equity actors from the Michigan area and New York, often times Broadway credited. Productions also feature local non-equity actors in featured roles and the ensemble. The Encore’s goal is to produce high quailty, Broadway calibre musical theatre productions.
