Lifton Moves to Tech Town in Detroit
Unity Studios is relocating to the City of Detroit, studio officials announced today. Initial plans to build sound stages and production offices in the City of Allen Park will move forward in Detroit. “We’re very excited to be moving to the City of Detroit and to be a part of Detroit’s emerging Creative Corridor,” said Jimmy Lifton, President of Unity Studios. “Having trained over 200 people, filmed 3 feature films, and put over 150 people to work on various projects, we are doing all we can to play a part in Detroit’s developing film industry.”
Unity’s corporate offices will be located at TechTown until final negotiations on a permanent site are completed. Two sites are being considered that will house Unity Studios’ sound stages, production offices and support businesses. Studio executives have been working closely with representatives of the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation to secure a building and property in Detroit’s Creative Corridor.
Having successfully completed its last feature film “War Flowers” starring Christina Ricci and Tom Berenger, the studio plans to produce additional movies this winter and in the Spring of 2011.
Additionally, a film training partnership between The Lifton Institute for Media Skills and a Detroit-based workforce development organization is in final negotiations and could be announced within the next few weeks. “The Lifton Institute for Media Skills” will continue training Detroit area residents for meaningful careers in the film industry,” added Lifton.
