State Fair Studios – Full Service Film Production & Post Production Studio Complex
S3 Entertainment Group has put forth a proposal to the State of Michigan to develop the Michigan State Fairgrounds into a full service film production and post production studio complex. In addition, the proposal includes the operation of the Michigan State Fair beginning in 2010 with substantial expansion of the Michigan State Fair in subsequent years.
State Fair Studios will be operational within 90 days of State approval and will employ over 500 Michigan workers and offer worker training for highly paid film industry jobs.
Michigan’s industry-leading tax incentive has attracted close to $300 million in film production to the State last year and expect close to $500 million of film production in Michigan in 2010. The film industry has created thousands of highly paid (with full benefits) jobs for Michigan workers.
About S3 Entertainment Group
S3 Entertainment Group LLC is based in Ferndale, Michigan with an office in Los Angeles, California. In February of this year, they opened S3 Studios, the first dedicated feature film production studio in Michigan. The studio is located in Madison Heights and includes a 25,000 square foot soundstage, supported by 10,000 square feet of production offices, screening rooms, post production facilities and support services. While the existing Studio is an excellent facility for small to medium sized independent projects, it cannot offer the full range of services and multiple stages required by larger films and television productions. Currently in Michigan, there are no existing feature film facilities with multiple studios available, permitting filmmakers to shoot on multiple sets during the winter months. Despite some announcements, none appear to be on the immediate horizon.
State Fair Studios will be comprised of three large film production stages in Phase One, as well as a full slate of support services, post-production services, and training facilities capable of offering training and retraining of Michigan workers for jobs to be created by this facility. They will also begin restoration of the existing buildings to their original grandeur. In Phase Two, they propose building two additional stages totaling 40,000 square feet and also expand our restoration efforts of the Fairgrounds buildings.
