47th Ann Arbor Film Festival
Tuesday March 24th, 2009 through March 29th Ann Arbor will be hosting the 47th Ann Arbor Film Festival. Started in 1963, the Ann Arbor Film Festival is America’s longest running independent film festival.
Films will be running from Tuesday through Sunday in Downtown Ann Arbor @ the Michigan and State theaters. The festival will consist of 175 films from 20 different countries, which were selected from this year’s 2600 entries.
Over the years, the Ann Arbor Film Festival has showcased early work from major filmmakers such as Kenneth Anger, Agnes Varda, Andy Warhol, Yoko Ono, Gus Van Sant, Barbara Hammer, Lawrence Kasdan, and George Lucas. This year’s spotlight will most likely focus on Oscar-nominated animator Don “Billy’s Balloon” Hertzfeldt, who will debut his 22-minute animation, “I am so proud of you.” Hertzfeldt’s hand drawn stick figure creations and unique entertainment style has taken him over 2 years to create.
