Ann Arbor Auditions for Dark Comedy Short

An Ann Arbor based production company is casting for “Presenting the Invasion,” a short dark comedy about a couple in the 1930s, who hear a radio broadcast detailing an alien landing and must fight off their hysteria in order to protect themselves from the looming invasion.

Available Roles:

  • BETTY:  Betty is a farmer’s housewife that glamorizes city life. The thought of an alien invasion makes her desperate to leave the farm. Looking for an actor that can portray someone in their 40s and white.
  • HENRY:  Henry is a bigoted World War I veteran. Born and raised on the same farm, he will cling to his home even if it means completely isolating himself from the world. Looking for an actor that can portray someone in their 50s and white.

Auditions:

Auditions will take place on Wednesday, October 6th at 4:00pm in Ann Arbor. If you have any time constraints, please let me know. We may have alternate audition dates.

We will be shooting outside of the Ann Arbor area. We are planning on shooting on the evenings of October 22-24; October 29-31; and possibly November 6th and 7th. The exact times will be determined in the upcoming weeks, but plan on evenings for the most part.

Compensation:

Also, due to the ultra low-budget nature of this film, this will be an unpaid job, but it will be a great chance to work with a talented crew that have gone through advanced film studies and have worked on major productions. Also, the film is planned to be distributed in a wide variety of film festivals.

Evil Genius Entertainment Casting

Evil Genius Entertainment, Michigan’s premiere low-budget horror production company is accepting early submissions for talent and crew for it’s fifth feature. We need all ages, genders, and ethnicities (18 and over). Experience is preferred, but not necessary. Those who submit now may have the opportunity to be cast before we hold open auditions.

This is a graphic horror feature. Scenes contain gore and offensive language. Filming will hopefully take place over seven nights in late October. We will be announcing audition dates as soon as the audition location is secured. We will contact everyone who submitted online to inform them of audition schedules.

Compensation:

This is a deferred pay gig, but we will reimburse for some costs. Food, credit and copy of DVD for all. We are seeking funding, so compensation may become available.

Filming is from 10/7 to 10/18, but the twins will only be needed for 1 or 2 days of filming during this time frame. Exact dates that the twins will be needed are not finalized. Shooting will take place in Detroit, MI.

What to Prepare:

All talent needs to bring a professional headshot and a resume.  There is no fee for registration!

  • Singers: Prepare 2 contrasting pieces of music, 16 bars each There will be NO accompanist
  • Actors: Prepare a monologue, at least one minute in length Be prepared for improv exercises May be asked to do a cold read/improv scene
  • Dancers: Prepare 2 dance numbers of contrasting styles, no longer than one minute in length Bring own music, CD player will be provided with a hook up for IPods
  • Models: Prepare to showcase your walk and poses Female models in bathing suits and heels Male models in bathing suits and flat soled shoes/barefoot.

Styles: Commercial and high fashion.

NOTE: For models, if you are under 18 years old you may walk in age appropriate clothing that is figure flattering. Be prepared to be weighed and have your measurements taken.

  • We want you to audition at your best ability so when you walk through that door, please remember we are a team, so smile and let’s have a great time.
  • Dress appropriately. The way you present yourself is your interview.
  • Confidence is key. If you are not confident in your talents, how can you ask us to be confident in you. SELL IT!

“The Prince”

Written and Directed by Ryan Ginestet

Synopsis:

The Prince is a religious parable detailing the constant and ambiguous nature of the battle between good and evil and the forces participating in the battle. The main characters are four men of various ages. These men are Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, and Samael. These are the four principle arch angels. The Prince, who is Lucifer, will assume his quasi-ambiguous role initially taken up in Milton’s Paradise Lost as the anti-hero. And finally two young children, Adam and Evelyn. The young children represent the innocence lost during Lucifer’s initial corruption in the Garden of Eden. They have been in The Prince’s possession since that ancient time and he has hid them in this labyrinthine wood. The four archangels are there to find them and take them back. The story will detail the archangels, in the form of woodsman, hunt for the prince and the two children and the prince’s vigilant task of protecting the children until death. The main themes of the film is power and the ambiguous nature of good and evil and the different perspectives from both vantage points. Who is right and who is wrong. Are both right and both wrong?

“Natural Disasters and Other Blessings”

NOTE: This film will only be casting on Saturday, October 2nd.

Synopsis:

A father, desperate for money, sees the natural disasters happening in the world and uses them to his advantage to pay the bills he has piling up at home.

Available Roles:

  • Phillip Hawthorne – 30s-early 40’s
    Dark hair, average – stocky build, 6’ or above
    A laid off father who is paranoid about how he will pay his child’s medical bills. He takes advantage of the natural disasters to raise the money. He goes to a grocery store to pretend to raise money. At the end of the film, he is able to focus less on money and focus more on his child’s last days.
  • Woman – Late 20’s to early 30’s
    Blonde hair, business-woman, average height
    A professional woman with two children, who somehow finds time for work, the kids, and grocery shopping. She has a snooty disposition, but you see some kindness to her character.
  • Kathleen Hawthorne – 50’s to 60’s
    Dark or graying hair, shorter in stature
    Phillip’s mother who is the typical grandmother – caring, helpful, and supportive, but isn’t giving him the push he needs to succeed in life.

“A Perfect Day”

Synopsis:

After a bike ride through the city, Richard returns the book for his girlfriend and encounters a little girl who needs help getting a book bag out of a tree. He decides to help her out but it turns on him when she sabotages Richard and takes his money. More problems arise for Richard, on this perfect day when people stopping by think he wants to commit suicide even though he has no intention on doing so. All he wants to do is get to his job interview on time during this perfect day.

Vanessa Lynn’s groundbreaking murder mystery stage play “AFFAIRS…one night can change your life” (2008) is coming back for one big show and DVD taping in February 2011. The show has been re-written and is better than ever.  It’s the story of a troubled but prominent family living in the deep south. Their troubles worsen when they receive a mysterious visitor and within 48 hours of her arrival.  Someone is dead and an investigation takes place that all leads to a shocking killer and motive that will leave you breathless. This is a very critically acclaimed play and received many accolades and reviews from media.

Audition Details:

Auditions are Tuesday, October 12th from 6pm to 8pm at the Baldwin Public Library.  (300 W. Merrill St., Birmingham, MI)

Available Roles:

We are looking for the following roles. Please pay careful attention and only attend if you fit the criteria.

  • MAYOR GEORGE TAYLOR – Af Am Male late 40′s, early 50′s, very dramatic role, MUST BE ABLE TO DO A STRONG SOUTHERN ACCENT…singing is a plus but is not necessary.
  • JUNE TAYLOR – Af Am Female late 40′s, wheelchair bound, wife of Mayor Taylor, bitter woman that has mixed emotions about the scandalous affairs of her husband..MUST BE ABLE TO DO A STRONG SOUTHERN ACCENT, MUST BE A VERY STRONG SINGER
  • TANYA BENFORD – Caucasian, mid twenties, very attractive, very sexy, southern seductress MUST BE ABLE TO DO A STRONG SOUTHERN ACCENT, height, weight proportionate no larger than size 10
  • PEACHES TAYLOR – Af Am female, mid twenties, SOUTHERN BELLE ACCENT, lawyer and daddy’s little girl, singing not necessary but it is a plus, dramatic role.
  • GEORGE TAYLOR JR. – Af Am male, mid twenties, eclectic musician preferably with longer hair or dread locks (Lenny Kravitz type) black sheep of the family (no southern accent).
  • RONNIE WOODS – Af Am male, late twenties, STRONG SOUTHERN ACCENT, this role is both very dramatic and very comedic you must be able to do both and be believable, Ronnie is a jack of all trades but also the towns lead detective.
  • MISS ETHEL – Af Am female, mid-late forties, VERY STRONG SOUTHERN ACCENT, strong spiritual church going woman, dramatic role but very charming.
  • LUCRETIA  - Af Am female, over 30, a local witch and fortune teller MUST HAVE A STRONG JAMAICAN ACCENT this is a comedic but very witty role. MUST BE ABLE TO CARRY A TUNE not necessarily be a strong singer.
  • DETECTIVE ANN MOULTRIE – race open, early thirties, big city stern detective (Detective Benson CSI) must be believable in size and stature would prefer someone at least 5’6 or taller but will consider others.
  • DR. HEINZ – Caucasian male, mid 50′s, local physician and city coroner, VERY HEAVY SOUTHERN ACCENT, semi comedic role.
  • BRANDON WINTERS – Caucasian male, mid-late 20′s, a very arrogant, political opponent, running against Mayor Taylor for re-election.
  • REPORTER CINDY BEECH – age & race both open, need someone who is a very believable but controversial tv news reporter.
