The Real Rosie The Riveter Project
Recording their stories for the Tamiment Labor Archives
A new project at New York University’s Tamiment Labor Archives is documenting the first-hand stories of real-life “Rosie the Riveters,” women who went to work in America’s defense plants and munitions factories during World War II. Documentary Filmmakers Anne de Mare and Kirsten Kelly of Spargel Productions in New York (award-winning filmmakers of “Asparagus! Stalking the American Life”) are in the process of recording the oral histories of these women in their own words, preserving them for future generations.
The filmmakers will be in Michigan at the end of April to interview “Michigan Rosies.” The project is interested in all kinds of Rosie stories, from the ordinary, to the extraordinary. If you or someone you know was a Rosie and is interested in participating, please contact:

The Tamiment Labor Archives at NYU contains renowned archival, print, photograph, film and oral history collections documenting the history of the labor movement and how it related to the broader struggle for economic, social, and political change. Researchers from around the world use the collections for groundbreaking work in many areas of history, American studies and other fields.
